Lamego (20min by car) was the first capital of the country in the 12th century. The inhabitants of Mazes work and live in much the same way as they have done for hundreds of years. Wether you come for the panoramic scenery of the Douro Valley, or to visit picturesque villages, Cistercian monasteries or wine producing “quintas”, you will not be disappointed. This is a unique area –alive with its friendly people. In the summer you can swim under the waterfalls of the mountain streams. Two minutes up the mountain you will find an abandoned village called Anta which probably goes back to the time of the Schwabs – a Germanic tribe which settled here in the 6th century. Our cottage is fully equipped and very comfortable, even in the winter. There is a pellet driven fireplace with connections to radiators in the other rooms. The kitchen is cosy and very well equipped. Outside there is a terrace with an outside grill, plus a stone table and seats, to enjoy the fields around and the herds of sheep passing in the street below.
