The Peak Cottage is located at the Pico Alto locality in a small parish named Santa that belongs to the village of Porto Moniz. It's a recent construction that was designed and built from scratch, with architectural strokes of a rustic simplicity and made in a traditional Madeirian style, in order to create a relaxing environment and to provide a pleasant comfort, healthful rest and a self catering accommodation to those who intend to recover the lost energies from the active urban life.There is a predominance of wood, brickwork and some old, traditional tools and objects, once forgotten, in the attics of local people (from our family). For this reason it fits in the rustic tourism category.Built in an open plan, the ground floor combines a living room, a WC, a kitchenette and a traditional fireplace. The ambient temperature varies between 13º, in the winter, and 27º in the summer.The house is isolated in the middle of the forest, with the nearest neighbours three minutes away (on foot). Monte Sao Miguel is an authentic Alentejaans home, it is the perfect place to unwind amidst an exuberant flora and fauna. Everything exudes simplicity (or have the wealth) of the country life. Casa Velha, the 'Old House' is the original house. It was built in the style typical of the Alentejo. The thick adobe walls ensure that the house remains cool even in the middle summer and in winter they keep the cold out. Ceilings in the front two bedrooms are in the traditional way of reed, both rooms have windows with shutters that give a view on a mountainside with ferns and oaks. In one of the two rooms is a cot ready for the still small guest. Behind the door there is a hallway that leads to the spacious kitchen. It is equipped with simple but complete comfort: a four-burner stove, microwave and refrigerator. Crockery, cutlery, cookware and coffee maker missing, too. Sometimes, in the early pre-and after-years, can be very pleasant for heating the kitchen. The original fireplace is still intact, but the stove next to it heats the room faster and better. From the kitchen leads into the double bedroom which has patio doors to a private terrace at the back of the house. The kitchen also provides access to the bathroom, with shower, toilet, bidet and washbasin. Here is also the washing machine. Modern well presented two bedroom apartment close to the village of Cabanas and within walking distance to Benamor golf course. This ground floor apartment is centrally located and you can walk to the water front of Cabanas from where small fisherman boats bring you to the beautiful beach. All amenities are near by, e.g. restaurants, supermarkets, a small train station from where you can take the train to Faro or Tavira. The beautiful town of Tavira is 2 miles west from Casas da Praia and is well worth a visit. It is very easy to lose track of time in this lovely old town. You can spend hours strolling the charming cobblestone streets with it's many restaurants, shops, bars and terraces to enjoy a refreshment in the sun. Ilha de Tavira, it's famous beach with many small restaurants is only a boat ride away. The beach of Barril in Santa Luzia is also very nice. This beach is accessible by foot or if you don't like to walk, there is a small train that takes you there. There are many more beaches and golf courses to choose from within a few minutes drive. This is a very nice destination all year round. The apartment is tastefully decorated and consist of a living room with an open kitchen / dining area facing the garden area.
