Excellent walks from the cottage to Kings Wood (1,500 acres) where King Henry VIII hunted deer and to Godmersham Park (visited by Jane Austin).Numerous other walks nearby in the Stour Valley and Crundale Downs. In the village there are two pubs, a train station (short walk away and with direct trains to London, Ashford, Canterbury and Ramsgate), bus stop (services to Canterbury and Ashford), and a Post Office. Inside there is a captains cabin recontructed from a ship bound for Australia with wonderful carved ships figureheads and 17th century beams used on the outside. The Old Wharf Cottage is in a fantastic location as it is close to London, Royal Windsor and Heathrow with plenty of restaurants and attractions nearby.Beautiful thatched riverside cottage, named the 'Old Wharf Cottage' as once barges unloaded cargo of copper at the wharf, now the site of the outdoor heated swimming pool. It was originally built in 1903 in the Edwardian Era. The Arts and Crafts Movement between 1880 and 1910 influenced the owners many of them artists and sculptors themselves, and later arts and craft features were added including ornate plaster work around the bedroom cornice's,a coat of arms as you climb the oak staircase with carving depicted by aged red and green paints, much used by the Arts and Craft Movement-inspired by medieval colour and image seen in the works of the artist/designer William Morris.It is approximately 40 minutes drive or train journey from the centre of London with an array of sightseeing opportunities available to you. Brown Dyke Stables is a wonderful new luxury self-catering vacation cottage created from former stables dating back to the 18th century and located in the Scottish Borders, just a few miles north east of the historic border city of Carlisle in Cumbria.\\r\\n\\r\\nLovingly restored by Don and Jean Musgrave over a couple of years, there are now three bedrooms, all en-suite, with two spacious living areas upstairs with wood stove and flat screen TV with Freeview. Downstairs are 2 further bedrooms, lovely modern kitchen/dining room with all mod cons.\\r\\n\\r\\nThe former stables are located on a large courtyard and are unusual for having lots of windows which make this a very light and airy place to stay.
